Siti Nurhaliza, Jaclyn Victor to join army reserves

KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 — Popular singers Datuk Siti Nurhaliza Taruddin and Jaclyn Victor will be joining the Territorial Army soon, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.

“Siti Nurhaliza has agreed to join the Territorial Army with her husband’s support,” Ahmad Zahid was quoted as saying by Bernama Online today.

He said Jaclyn and former TV3 host Maznah Zolkifli were also expected to join the reservists’ force.

“The officiating ceremony will be held before they enter training, before the fasting month,” said Ahmad Zahid.

Those who join the Territorial Army are required to complete 39 hours of training within a year, based on their convenience.

The defence minister said celebrities who joined the army reserves would be icons who could attract the participation of those under the age of 35.

Ahmad Zahid added that the army was ready to help out in rescue missions during natural disasters.

“Malaysia is a peaceful country and is not involved in war. So during peaceful circumstances, the army and other teams are ready to be the people’s soldiers,” he said.
